The Importance of Teamwork at Brooks School

At Brooks School Summer Programs, we believe summer should be fun and formative. One of the most important life skills we help develop in campers is teamwork. Whether kids are collaborating on a group project, working together in sports, or taking on new responsibilities, they learn that great things happen when we support one another.

If you’re wondering how to teach kids teamwork in a way that’s both age-appropriate and engaging, summer camp is the perfect place to start. And at Brooks, teamwork is built into the foundation of every program.

Teamwork in Action at Day Camp

Our Day Camp serves children ages 3 to 14 with a wide range of enriching, active, and creative experiences. From their very first day, campers are placed in small, thoughtfully curated groups that foster inclusion and friendship. These group dynamics create the ideal environment for kids to learn teamwork naturally through play, shared goals, and social interaction.

Whether it’s working as a team during a relay race, helping a friend row across Lake Cochichewick, or collaborating on a group craft project, children learn to listen, communicate, and encourage each other. Group counselors—many of whom return year after year—model cooperation and respect, reinforcing those behaviors in ways that feel meaningful and fun.

Collaboration Through Creativity at Stages & Studios

For kids with a passion for performance or visual arts, Stages & Studios offers a rich opportunity to explore their talents while learning the power of collaboration. Whether they’re starring in a musical, learning choreography, or managing stage lighting as part of the CREW program, campers quickly discover that success comes from working together.

Each production or themed week is a shared effort—one that teaches kids how to take direction, support their peers, and value every role in a team, both onstage and behind the scenes. As campers prepare for their final showcase, they practice compromise, patience, and group problem-solving skills they’ll carry with them long after the curtain falls.

Leadership and Teamwork Go Hand in Hand

Teamwork is essential at every age, but it becomes especially powerful during the teen years. That’s why Brooks offers a dedicated Leaders-in-Training program for campers ages 13 to 17. Designed as a multi-year experience, this leadership camp builds critical skills through daily training, peer mentorship, and hands-on involvement with younger camper groups.

In Year 1, teens begin by learning the basics of youth development and teamwork within a supportive group. As they progress, they take on more responsibility—facilitating activities, practicing positive behavior management, and learning how to lead with empathy and purpose. LITs walk away not only with stronger communication and conflict resolution skills but with a deeper appreciation for collaboration and shared success.

Why Teamwork Matters at Camp & Beyond

No matter which program your child joins, teamwork is more than just a theme at Brooks—it’s a lived experience. Campers grow as individuals by learning how to be part of a group, embrace differences, and work toward a common goal.

Because when kids learn to work together, they don’t just have more fun—they build confidence, character, and the foundations for leadership that last a lifetime.
